1. Continuing support for WRCE activity
The University of Sheffield has received £9m over five years from the Higher Education Funding Council for England (HEFCE), to promote excellence in teaching and learning under its 'CETL' initiative.

Half of this is via a White Rose bid to expand the enterprise learning activity of WRCE. The proposed Centre for Excellence in the Teaching and Learning of Enterprise will build on the White Rose Centre for Enterprise activity, sustaining success in science and engineering and expanding to all students at the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield and York, with a focus on social sciences, arts and humanities.

Bob Handscombe, Director of WRCE sees the funding as "delightful, national confirmation that the way we have approached enterprise learning is regarded as excellent. It is a real opportunity to make a larger impact and to provide opportunities for all the students at our campuses to become aware of enterprise in the context of their chosen subject and to gain enterprise and entrepreneurial skills that will stand them in good stead as business entrepreneurs, social entrepreneurs and as enterprising employees".

The funding will provide for bold visible statements of enterprise, dubbed Enterprise Zones to be established at each campus, where staff and student can go to experiment with enterprise activity and where wider, dissemination events (clubs, seminars, meetings) can take place.

Professor Bob Boucher, Vice Chancellor at the University of Sheffield, says, "These are prestigious awards, and our success demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that our students have the best possible experience at University and leave here with the knowledge and skills to succeed in whatever they choose for the future."
