Audit of Students Views of Enterprise
The White Rose Centre for Enterprise released the findings of its audit into
student perceptions of enterprise in January 2001, and the results confirm
that enterprising students have high expectations. Analysis carried out by
Leeds' Higher Education Policy Unit (HEPU) of 700 questionnaires completed
by students on the White Rose campuses showed that more than a third of new
students are involved in enterprise activity before coming to university.
This ranges from formal "young enterprise" schemes through to charity work.
Exposure to enterprise was even higher; with over half reporting that their
school or college had such initiatives. But almost 90% expressed interest
in learning more about enterprise and innovation in their degree course -
and that expectation is spread across all disciplines, not just in business
studies.
